Hometown Backwards
04:25
|
|||
What's written on the pages of the books in your dreams?
And what's behind the doors that you cannot see?
And who's the lonely shadow standing there in the corner?
What's he have in store, what's he have in store for ya?
You told me that I couldn't dream of faces that I'd never seen,
I stared dumbfounded saying "what the hell do you mean?"
I can build a city without lifting a finger
I can hear the lyrics even though there's no singer
I woke up in the morning, realized that life was boring
So I went back to sleep, I went back to sleep
I shut my eyes and never came back here
Now I just wanna be a voice that echoes in your head
I wanna be one of the faces that you've never seen
Wanna speak the headlines of the paper on the table
Turn on the lights, then turn 'em off, you'll see it's no fable
Colors were distorted and I couldn't read the words
The more I concentrated, the more their faces blurred
Felt that I was far away in a foreign land but
Then I realized it was my hometown backwards
Packed my bags but it was no vacation
On the train never coming back to the station
Got on a plane and got trapped in foreign lands
But thank, thank God it's just my hometown backwards

A Pensive Trip
03:21
|
|||
The sleeping world is an upside-down mirror image
Like the reflection of your face in a soap bubble
The waking world is a confounded color scheme
So let's explore these hidden worlds with our body doubles
You'll hear the voices calling out from underneath the rubble
These flowing threads of light, they call to us
Escaping the daylight as we sink deeper underwater
It's getting colder and warmer at the same time
Yellow smoke fills a glass chamber over water
Enters the lungs of the next unsuspecting victim
He sits calmly waiting in anticipation
Of a new view, 'cos he's through with the old one
I fell through the different realms like translucent pages
The world was illusory just as I left it
My future was laid out before me like a burning star fire
Getting brighter and dimmer at the same time
The sleeping world is an upside-down mirror image
If it feels real, what more do you need from it?
If it feels real, could you really see through it?
I can still smell the cold air from back then
I can still feel the grass on the back of my head
That night we left our lives behind
And we knew we would always live above it all
And we knew we'd live above it always
The sleeping world is an upside-down mirror image

Voice in the White Noise
04:07
|
|||
I can't decide if the voice inside of my head is God or the Devil
God or the Devil
Lookin' for something on the inside or out
To keep me on the level, keep me on the level
But look for something too hard
I'm afraid you might never find it
I dreamt of some place far, far away from here
Too far off for me to travel
Once again I find myself staring at the backs of blank eyelids for hours
I'm hearing echoes of the faint, cross-talking ghosts in white noise bleeding under my door.
Could you be at the front of your eyes, and five feet behind yourself at the same time?
Now I'm walking through the overcrowded halls, wading through the whispering silhouettes here.
I see your face, and it's here to stay
Eager to throw on a charade for all of us, for all of us
It seems the daylight begins to fade when I feel your presence drown out the love
It breathes above

Orion
02:54
|
|||
Stars fell from Orion's belt
(She knows, she knows)
(Wasted away on the path of least resistance)
Our bodies are gone, gone
Our bodies are gone, gone
Our bodies are gone now.
Our bodies are gone, gone.
Stars fell from Orion's belt
Stars fell from Orion's belt
Stars fell from Orion's belt
Stars fell from Orion's belt
On the east side of the African continent
The ancient people had nothing to point their pyramids at
At the eastern side of the African continent
The ancient people had nothing to point their pyramids at
Blood spilled in the Colosseum seeped into the ground and flowed through the aqueducts.
Blood spilled in the Colosseum seeped into the ground and filled up the aqueducts.

She Knew
02:52
|
|||
Back from outer space, you were slingshot here
You will slowly erase, all you've built out there
Whitewash it away, make for a new memory
Leave what you were behind, and become something free.
Keep walking forward but the ground seems to move with you.
You're standing still but the wheels on your feet send you downhill.
A few steps backward and you're right where you started.
Only direction left to go is up, up, away.
Captured looks on her face
And it all came clear, this wasn't meant for me
This wasn't meant for me
She knew, she knew, she knew
As I stared at the screen
She saw something that I didn't see in me
There's something left for me
She knew, she knew, she knew
As I stared at the screen
She saw something that I never saw in me
There's something else for me
She knew, she knew, she knew

Static on the Other End
03:36
|
|||
Why is it that all the phones never seem to work here?
My mind can't establish this connection somehow.
And every time it does the voice on the other end
Is always breaking up
That phone number that you gave me didn't work in the real world
Too many digits, or not enough
Always brought me straight to the operator
The last time we spoke, your dream was bleeding into reality
And I couldn't understand what you meant by what you said
Now all I hear is static on the other end, where you used to be
But I can't hang up the phone
And the line's down, but I still hear your cross-talk
With the memories spilling out
And the last time that I ever saw you
We spoke of things I can't repeat
It was the last time, the last time that I could ever call you
And you finally hung up the phone

House of Mirrors
02:45
|
|||
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that's real
I have no choice now but to be happy for strangers
In the corner of my eyes I see them staring at me
Staring at myself
This introspection has taken its toll, taken its toll
I've trapped myself in a box walled in with two-way mirrors
Every day I'm trying hard to stare beyond the glass
But all I see is my reflection
I'm just a bird who forgot to fly South for the winter
Now I'm building a nest just to survive this place
Every time I step outside, feels like I'm braving the cold world
All by myself
This false direction it keeps me asleep, keeps me asleep
I'm spending too much time trying to forget where I am
And every morning when I look in the mirror
I'm still afraid of my reflection
I'm still afraid of my reflection
And all I see is my reflection

Beyond the Horizon
03:33
|
|||
Smoke and stardust fills my lungs
Makes me think that the planets are just too high strung
(along, strung along)
Stardust comes and stardust goes
I see the moon and it's shoutin' at the people down below
(get off, get off)
'Cos we're all just nothing floating through space-time
'Cos we're all just nothing floating through space-time
We're all just someone hanging 'round dreamin'
We're in the middle of a pattern that just keeps repeating on
We're all just something hanging around dreamin'
We're at the bottom of a black hole searching for meaning
If you look up at the sky, you'll see the edges of space
But what separates them, the horizon or the brain?
From a distance it's all the same,
And we're the ones to blame, we're the ones to blame
Just a great, big, calamitous happenstance.
If you'd just look at the planets
You'd see that they were manic
But what set their paths,
Your God or my Math?
Have you ever thought that maybe He was naught?
That you were born on that day to die and decay?
Who knows what we'll discover, if there should ever come a time when there is little left that is unknown. What will we find at the end? Will it be God, or will there be nothing?
